Four minutes later, Jimbo surfaced before starting a 'where did that come from?' bike ride. Maurice was third out of the water showing that his recent pool(e) miles have massively improved his stroke (some thanks for this should probably go to Fordy for his technical advice!). He then backed up the swim with a bit of an epic bike leg puncturing twice. It's a credit to Maurice's training that despite all this, he still finished the bike well within the cut-off.

Crazy-horse, so called because with two wheels beneath him he seemingly has no concept of the word PAIN, showed the kind of form that has been ruining the rest of us in training. With a typically powerful performance he set himself up for a solid run that would get him well inside his predicted finishing time.

Champ, the last out of the water, got progressively stronger throughout the bike course and didn't stop there - he ran negative splits on the three laps of the run course - this has Ironman potential written all over it.

The run course, a hilly off-road half-marathon was a strength-sapping culmination to the race following the brutal bike course. Jimbo on the course ahead of scheduled expectations put in a solid 1:37 a PB on this course bagging a finishing time of 5:20, a PB by 35 minutes. Fordy, naturally strong on the run posted a great run-time of 1:50 showing everyone how a first-time half-ironman triathlon should be done. His overall finishing time of 5:50 was a whole 40 minutes faster than he'd expected. Ryan, third home for Whinfell Harriers also put in a good run-split of 1:51 and finished in 6:15. Crazy-horse's gallop of 2:11 got him fourth spot with a finishing time of 6:22 and not to be outdone, Maurice's great run of 2:04 closed a great day of racing for the team within his target 7 hour target time.

Jimbo 5:20:25
Fordy 5:50:31
Champ 6:15:05
Crazy-horse 6:22:25
Maurice 6:55:25

With such strong debuts at the half-ironman distance by Fordy, Champ, Crazy-horse and Maurice over the world's hardest course, there's really only question guys.....!

Thanks go to the team's girls for moral, logistical, photographic and nutritional support - cheers ladies!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3009653363192520984.post-63926684337736182022009-05-10T14:28:00.000+01:002009-10-29T14:39:19.403+00:00Buttermere Triathlon 2009Thanks to everyone who supported the Buttermere Triathlon despite the atrocious weather conditions!

From your generous donations, we raised £185.83 which is being divided equally between The Prostate Cancer Charity and Meningitis UK.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3009653363192520984.post-18678427685273051512009-03-01T21:28:00.009+00:002009-03-26T22:51:43.206+00:00Buttermere Triathlon - 9th May 2009Following last year's success, Buttermere Triathlon is back for 2009 on a new course. A solid swim saw him out of the water in 2nd place which he held for the whole bike course until catching Paul Walwyn on the run.

Paul's 2nd place is also notable as this was his very first triathlon, and despite a lot of pre-race goading from his girlfriend, Rosie, some fast transitions and a strong mountain-bike ride placed him well-up the field.

The Raho Brothers took the 3rd and 4th places, led home by John (your 'Man with a Van'), who had a strong race finishing 2nd in the Buttermere Triathlon in May. This was Andy's first triathlon.

Rosie Hart's triathlon debut was also impressive. A super-tight wetsuit didn't stop her swimming well before putting in a fast bike split on her new wheels. This was backed up with a typically fast run. It'll be frightening to see what she can do in the Spring 2009 triathlon which will have an option on the run to do a fell run.

Jim's mechanical problems put paid to a fast bike split but a reasonable swim and run put him into 6th. Suzy Robertson did a great race and looked confortable running herself into 7th. Hinksy and Brett duelled throughout the race, constantly passing each other. They were very evenly matched on the flat and equally sick of the hills. Both Hinksy and Brett have big triathlon plans for 2009 of the Ironman and Half-Ironman distances respectively so it will be good to see how their winter training goes.

Thanks to everyone who came along and raced, I hope you enjoyed the course. Also special thanks to Cols, Whinfell Harriers's Directeur Sportif and to Harry for their kayak swim support and help with the race logistics.

Course map here.
-------------------------------------------------------
The next club race will be the Buttermere Triathlon, to be held on 9th May 2009. This will be a middle distance race with the swim in Buttermere, the bike taking in two high passes: Honistor Hause; and Newlands Hause, and for the run, a choice of a long flat valley run or shorter fell run course. Full details to be published in due course.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3009653363192520984.post-7001991233003175742008-08-11T22:03:00.004+01:002008-08-24T17:37:02.112+01:00Recent triathlon resultsOlympic distance triathlon results:

J.Poole ---------2:18h - London triathlon
S.Parkinson ---2:38h - London triathlon
A.Poole---------2:55h - South Coast Triathlon
B.Welch -------3:07h - Cambridge triathlon

Well done all!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3009653363192520984.post-60555907346210081122008-08-08T19:37:00.000+01:002008-08-08T20:00:42.135+01:00August Olympic distance triathlonsFour guys are doing Olympic distance triathlons over the next couple of weeks:

Sunday 10th August:
Cambridge - Brett Welch
London - Stu Parkinson and Jim Poole

Sunday 17th August:
South Coast (Brighton) - Al Poole

Good luck all!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3009653363192520984.post-16824024543260607802008-08-02T10:10:00.000+01:002008-08-02T10:12:18.531+01:00Eridge 10 mile XCountry RaceWe will be sending a team to the Eridge Park 10 mile XCountry race on 14th September 2008. Despite the shit weather over the whole weekend and throughout the race I was very pleased to take 29 mins off my 2007 Ironman time and finish in 11hrs 7 mins. I have posted a full race report on my training blog hereUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3009653363192520984.post-62014843168179552382008-06-17T21:29:00.000+01:002008-07-24T22:06:39.722+01:00UK Half-Ironman Triathlon 2008James 'Jimbo' Poole and Alasdair 'Maurice' Poole smashed the competition in the UK Half Ironman triathlon in a very hilly Exmoor.

JP finished in 5hrs 55:10 a small PB and another step in the lead up to Challenge Roth in July, Europe's biggest Ironman distance race and Ironman no.2.

AP had a very strong swim and tough ride on the bike course (which has 52 hills in 56 miles!), marginally finishing outside the time cut-off at T2. Unfortunately this meant that he will have to wait until 2009 to smack the run course.

Brett Welch was team manager for the weekend doing a sterling job in shouting abuse us. He's threatening to race at next year's race. I can only see this ending in tears, but Brett will definitely finish.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
